Mary Ashley, a bright young professor of Eastern European studies at Kansas State University and mother of two, is appointed the United States ambassador to an Iron Curtain country. Even before she takes up her post unseen and powerful enemies plot her destruction. Angel, an international assassin is employed to kill her. 

          Two men are by Mary’s side – Mike Slade, her tough deputy chief of mission and a nice French doctor Louis Desforges. But soon she comes to believe that one of them is out to kill her.
