Taran longed to be a hero, and not a pig-keeper, but he quickly found that adventures weren’t what he had imagined. His pig, Hen Wen, could show the dreadful Horned King where the Black Cauldron was – and the King must never find it, for if he did, he could raise an army of the dead and with it rule the world.

Trying to save Hen Wen from the Horned King, Tarn tries to find the Black Cauldron himself, in order to destroy it. He’s helped by Princess Eilonwy, Flewddur the old minstrel, and the little wood creature Gurgi. But in the desolate Marshes of Morva, Taran finds that the Cauldron’s powers can only be stopped by someone climbing into the Cauldron. And whoever does so will never come alive… Taran and his friends must be brave and determined as they try to fulfil their task, for the Horned King will stop at nothing to achieve his ends.
