The day has not yet come when a definitive and final edition of the Poems and Songs of Robert Burns can be announced with assurance; but it can be claimed for this edition that it is as accurate and comprehensive as modern scholarship can make it. Over sixty poems, some of which have never before been published, appear for the first time in a collected edition, while poems now known to be spurious, or the work of others, have been deleted from the text.
