Like his father before him, Orlando chooses a bride whose sudden arrival totally disrupts the lives of those closest to him; he marries Lindy on a whim and brings her to the house where he spent his childhood. She is obsessed with her career and is quite different form the other women who feel they have a claim to him – his godmother Victoria, who brought him up, and his childhood friend Rose, who has always worshipped him. But Lindy must contend with the ghost of Orando’s mother, whose hold over them all is hidden in the pages of the visitor’s book.
