     As Ross stands trial for his life, Demelza awaits the birth of Jeremy Poldark.

     It’s all over, thought Ross, and so much better if I’d stuck to my guns and made the speech I wanted. As it is, I haven’t even the satisfaction of having told them exactly what I thought – about the trial, and about the wreck.
